When lodging a passport application for Australia, you mustprovide two recent identical colour photos of yourself with your completed application form. For a renewal application, which is the one page form, one of your photos must have yourname printed on the back.
The basics for Australian Passport Photos
45–50mm (1 3/4" -1 15/16" )high and 35–40mm (1 3/8" -1 9/16" ) wide show head and top of shoulders close up, so the measurement of the face from the bottom of the chin to the crown (i.e. top of head without hair) is between 32mm and 36mm (1 1/4" -1 7/16" ).

photograph cannot be manipulated, for example, by removing spots or softening lines.
Glasses
If you usually wear glasses, you do not have to wear them for your passport photograph, but
if you do they must show your eyes clearly:
no dark tinted lenses which restrict a clear view of your eyes
no flash reflection off the lenses
frames should not cover any part of your eyes
lighter framed glasses are preferable if you have them.
Photos of children and babies should:
show the child or baby awake, looking straight at the camera with mouth closed and no pacifier
show the child or baby's face clearly without any other objects (including a parent's supporting hand) visible
show the child or baby without any hair across the eyes.
The photos must be no more than six months old.
The following guidelines will help you provide suitable photographs so that your application is not delayed by having to submit new photographs in the required format.
For a new application, one of these photos must be endorsed on the back with the words "This is a true photo of (your full name)" and then signed by your guarantor.
If you are an Australian adult citizen aged 18 years or over and can provide at interview an Australian adult passport (issued with at least 2 years validity) which is current or has expired within the last 12 months and shows your current personal details, you can

If your passport has been lost or stolen, you are unable to renew it and must complete a full adult passport application form and attend an interview.
If you are overseas and are unable to complete a renewal form online, you can telephone the nearest Australian diplomatic or consular mission. If you qualify, the passports staff will mail you the pre-completed Australian Passport Renewal Application or it can be collected from the mission where the form is requested. If you do not qualify, you can complete the full overseas application form online, or obtain a full adult passport application form online from the overseas mission.
If you are unable to complete the form online and are in Australia, you can telephone the Australian Passport Information Service. The operator will check your eligibility and, if you qualify, mail you an Australian passport renewal form pre-completed electronically using information held by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. If you do not qualify, you can complete a full adult passport application form online or collect one from an Australia Post outlet.
